Days 6 and 7: Party supplies and Baby's It's Cold Outside

Playing catch-up tonight.  And I'm posting on day 8 it seems.  It's been a busy week.  We took Kayleigh to the party store to pick up some party favors.  She's having a princess party on Saturday.  Cinderella will be making an appearance.  So she found some little tiara hair combs, princess wands, glittery bounce balls, and some Lightening McQueen things for her little boy friends.  She picked out Cinderella cake plates and napkins, too.

Then today is ballet day.  She has dance class every Thursday afternoon.  Today we had to layer her up, because it is much,  much colder than we are used to.She wore her new black leotard, a pair of black leggings, and a long sleeve t-shirt.  She topped it all off with her new pink tutu that she got for her birthday last weekend.  I think it was in the lower 30's when I took her to class today, so she was "freezin' beezin'" as her and her brother like to say.

Speaking of "freezin beezin,"  I have something funny to share.  The other night we were getting K tucked in and were talking about her first day of school and she mentioned that she didn't get to play on the playground.  I told her that was because it was too cold outside.  She replied "I would freeze my hiney off?" I told her that yes, she would freeze her hiney off.  She then said "Then I not go poop."  :)

Day 5: Kid's Laundry

It never ends.  Just as soon as I finish washing, folding, and putting away (if it gets put away ;)) they need clean clothes again.  Now that we're having some cold weather they don't seem to have enough long sleeve shirts and pants to make it through the week.  I just washed a load of their stuff  a few days ago and here I go again.

It's clean and dry and sitting in the dryer.  I did take their school clothes out tonight and those are ready for the morning.

Now I just need to get it all put away in the morning...

Day 4: Littlest Petshop

Kayleigh, much like many girls her age, is totally in love with these Littlest Petshop figures.  She got her first set from the "boo-fairy," who came to take one of her broken pacifiers away, several months ago.  This first set came with a little house and 2 little dog figurines.  One of that pair just happens to be one of her favorite colors.  This puppy figurine, which is a couple of shades of purple, is fondly called Pink Puppy.  It is her very very favorite of all of her many Littlest Petshop toys.

Day 3: Birthday Roses

Today is Kayleigh's 3rd birthday.  She slept until 10:30.  I guess she was sleeping in to have energy for her big day.  We just had a little something with her Aunt and Grandparent's today and will have her birthday party next weekend and then she'll have a little more birthday the following weekend with my family.

Today her Grandma brought her three pink roses.  I was in here when she went to the door with her daddy to greet her Grandma and Grandpa.  I could hear her yell out "flowers!" just after the door was opened.  Then she ran in here with her roses clutched in her fist and a huge grin on her face.  "Grandma bringed me flowers" she said when she got to the pile of presents on the floor.

I, of course, took lots and lots of photos of her and her birthday roses.  There were many that were perfect for today's P365 picture of the day.  However, I decided that this one with her brother was my favorite.

Day 2: Doodle and Wii.

Jake was sitting in his chair playing Lego Indiana Jones 2 on the Wii.  I sat down on the hearth and just watched him for a few minutes with my camera in my lap.  He's finally gotten the hang of the Wii remote and just loves to play.

Day 1: Happy New Year!

I'm going to attempt this 365 thing this year.  I'm not going to promise any particular type of photo.  I take pictures of all sorts of random things.  Before I put the kids to bed tonight I pulled out the monster and took a few shots of the kids.  None of them seemed right for today.

So I went to the kitchen and pulled out my New Year's food and prepped a plate of it with a little garnish and snapped a few shots.  I think this is my shot of the day:

Texas Caviar

Want the recipe?

2 cans of black eyed peas
4 finely diced cloves of garlic
1 finely diced red onion
1 finely diced bell pepper
5 thinly sliced green onions
handful of chopped cilantro
1/4 white wine vinegar
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup salsa verde
salt and pepper to taste
(If you want it extra spicy dice a jalepeno pepper and toss that in, too.)

Drain and rinse the black eyed peas.  Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.  Mix well.
Cover and refrigerate for 2-24 hours.  The longer it marinates the better it tastes.

Serve cold with tortilla chips.
